The ICRSE was established to promote the Center's involvement in other remote sensing activities outside the Symposium. The Center is located on the University of Maryland Baltimore County south campus and is under direction from the Board of Directors.

The ISRSE symposia series continues to be guided by an international executive committee comprised of experts in the field of remote sensing who represent most of the world's national space agencies. In January of 2000, the Center signed a Letter of Intent with the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) to strengthen cooperation and coordination. In July of 2000, the General Assembly of ISPRS approved the installation of the executive committee as the International Committee on Remote Sensing of Environment (ICORSE) of ISPRS. In addition to its role in providing policy and programmatic guidance to ISRSE, ICORSE serves as a standing advisory committee to the ISPRS Council.

The indivdual ISRSE symposia are hosted by the national agency and supported by an Organising Comittee and a Program Committee.

The International Committee on Remote Sensing of Environment (ICORSE) is a permanent Committee of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS).

It provides advise and support to both the biannual ISRSE and the Secretariat and is composed of representatives of national agencies from many of the world's space-faring nations.

ICORSE collaborates with ISPRS Commissions and entities to coordinate and enhance remote sensing activities by:

  • Coordinating the biennial symposium schedules;
  • Makes ISRSE proceedings available as part of The International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences (IAPRSSIS);
  • Encourages submission of worthy papers for publication in the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing;
  • Proposes worthy candidates for recognition, awards and nominations to the ISPRS Editorial Review Board;
  • Provides advice to ISPRS Council on matters related to remote sensing of environment.

The International Center on Remote Sensing of Environment (ICRSE) was created in 1998. It is a non-profit that serves as the Secretariat of ISRSE to sustain and support each iteration of ISRSE. It functions both as the administrative home of ISRSE, and the vehicle by which individual ISRSE iterations are organized and planned with cooperating space agencies. The Secretariat has a Board of Directors that has management and fiducial oversight.

International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) is a non-governmental organization devoted to the development of international cooperation for the advancement of photogrammetry and remote sensing and their applications. The Society operates without any discrimination on grounds of race, religion, nationality, or political philosophy..
